As I was unable to obtain a few examples of newspapers that have used billboards before I am forced to use some recent campaigns that have been on billboards in the past year. The examples I will be using are all very simplistic and use minimal text therefore making the billboard stand out, attracting the passer by's attention even when in fast & busy situations. If a billboard is too busy then the majority of it will be ignored as people do not have the time to look at it in depth and the billboard will be unable to do its job efficiently.
Sky has used a background of several different bright colors, with a retorical question in the centre of the billboard and there is no sign apart from the conventional font of the billboard ,that Sky uses in all of its advertising campaigns, that this billboard is advertising Sky until you were to look in the bottom right hand corner to confirm this.
The only example of a newspaper that I could find is The Sun which is shown below, the billboard is one of the most simplistic I had found whilst researching around the area of Billboards and only features 4 words and the logo on the ad. There is no background image what so ever, and is not needed as as soon as anyone glanced over at the billboard for a split second they would not need to read the advert in its entirety, because they would automatically be drawn to the logo of The Sun which is the only bright color on the Billboard. The Sun's Advertising campaign yet being simple is straight to the point and leaves no confusion of what the billboard is about or who it is advertising because the billboard is not busy, leading to no misintepretations.
Lloyds bank have taken a similar approach as the two above examples, with a simple slogan and a background picture along with the logo in the bottom right hand corner. This shows that large companies like the three I have briefly talked about that operate over the whole of The UK go for a simplistic approach when advertising, not creating something that Is busy and may mislead the customer.
