In order to decide what target audience I am going to chose to go with for my production I will first research into current Local Newspapers in Kent, finding out a little bit about them and their background , including what content are present in their editions of their newspapers, and the age and gender of the majority of the readers of their paper in order to find some more inspiration that could also help me in how to go about my main task.
KM Extra
The KM Extra is aa weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distrubuted to homes and through local newsagents in Kent, including towns of Margate, Ramsgate & Broadstairs.
According to http://www.kentonline.co.uk/ (The KM Website)
"The launch of the paper signified the beginning of the Kent Messenger Group, the county's premier media group. Today, over 150 years later, the company continues to publish weekly newspapers, supplements and magazines but also runs websites, radio stations and other media-related businesses."
The paper is predominantly delivered to family homes and therefore the readers are mostly family homes that would appeal to almost any age as the paper includes articles about sport, youth news and the latest events in the area as well as the main news articles.
Kentish Gazette
The Kentish Gazette holds a status of a prestigious tabloid paper in Kent, This papers audience is mainly 21 and over as its content which includes information about crimes, sports and news in the area , appeals to this age range and therefore struggles to reach readers younger than this age. Other content that is included into its editions focusses on gardening, home care and various collecting hobbies and therefore furthers itself from the Youth that live in Kent.
Kent News
Kent news is one of the less popular newspapers in the County with less readers per edition. Its content focusses on news, crimes and trending topics in the local area. Newspapers are printed for individual areas of Kent eg. Canterbury or Medway and therefore the readers intake up to date news in their local areas that are most likely going to affect them. Whilst this newspaper focusses on the news it also features planning permission in the area ,local businesses and also have a area called Social Life which includes wanted ads and charity events in the area.
Its headlines include striking news such as "Bikes, lawnmowers and hedge trimmers seized in police raid"
